Our Story

How Bicara Keluarga came to be

Bicara Keluarga was established in Kuala Lumpur by practitioners who had worked for years within larger commercial firms and found, again and again, that family matters require a different kind of attention. The name itself reflects the founding intention: bicara — to speak, to reason quietly — and keluarga — family. The two words together describe exactly what this firm tries to provide.

The firm opened its Bukit Bintang practice in 2014, initially handling a modest caseload and growing steadily through referrals from clients who felt the difference a considered approach makes. We do not advertise the volume of cases managed. What we do take note of is the number of clients who return to us when a new matter arises, or who send a family member or colleague.

Our caseload remains deliberately measured. This is a choice. Smaller numbers mean each matter receives proper attention, that files are read before meetings rather than during them, and that clients can reach the same person from initial consultation through to conclusion.

Our Mission

Steady counsel when it matters most

Family law touches people at vulnerable moments. Our aim is to make those moments less disorienting — to translate legal processes into plain language, to maintain clear communication throughout, and to respect the pace at which each family needs to move.

We work across three core service areas: marital mediation and reconciliation counsel, divorce proceedings and property division, and child custody and welfare arrangements. Each service is approached with the same underlying conviction: that the families who come to us deserve straightforward advice and consistent support.

"We measure our work not by case numbers but by the clarity we bring to difficult situations."

— Founding Principle, Bicara Keluarga

Court Familiarity

The firm regularly appears before the High Court and Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur in family matters, and is familiar with local procedural expectations.

Professional Indemnity Coverage

The firm carries current professional indemnity insurance as required, providing clients with recourse in the unlikely event of a professional error.

Ongoing Professional Development

Advisers complete the Bar Council's mandatory CPD programme annually and attend family law seminars to remain current with legislative and case-law developments.

Family Law Expertise in Kuala Lumpur

Bicara Keluarga has developed its practice around the specific demands of civil family law in the Federal Territory and Selangor. The firm advises on matters governed by the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976, including petitions for divorce, ancillary relief applications, and applications for custody and access under the Guardianship of Infants Act 1961.

Mediation, where appropriate, draws on the framework established under the Mediation Act 2012. The firm's advisers understand both the formal legal pathway and the value of reaching workable agreements without the costs and delay that contested proceedings can involve.

Clients come to the firm from across the Klang Valley and, in cross-border custody matters, from further afield. The firm does not advertise widely. It is known principally through word of referral — which reflects the kind of work it intends to continue doing.
